*The real thing: the very highest quality Millefiori made in Murano by the world reknowned artisans at Ercole Moretti. Two splashes of blazing multi-color, the oval 3/4 inches long with an overall length of 1 1/4 inches, fitted with hypoallergenic gold plated earwires.
Most know the painstaking process, where tiny patterned chips are heated and affixed to a bead, one by one, and flamed until the chips melt together, covering the bead. Due to many factors, including dollar decline and retiring of skilled artisans, fine Millefiori (pron. Mill-ee-fee-or-ee) is becoming scarce and expensive. Much of what is on the market now is poor quality or Indian or Chinese imitations. So treat these as Heirloom Jewelry to pass on. *Don't be fooled...here is what distinguishes Moretti millefiori: Bright and dynamic colors--especially red; perfectly seamless smooth beads; symmetrical beads; surface covered by multi-color chips--no background color visible; complex four layer patterns and colors in the individual chips. If any of these are lacking, they are not Moretti Millefiori.
