Native American HOPI INDIAN MORNING SINGER Kachina Doll

This hand carved Hopi Indian Morning Singer kachina doll is an absolute masterpiece!  This magificent work of art was handcarved out of a single piece of genuine soft cottonwood and masterfully hand painted with hand mixed paint made from natural vegetation!  The colors are simply amazing!  Hand carved in the more contemporary style, this fabulous genuine Hopi kachina came from the Tuba City/Grand Canyon area.  It was obtained from one of the oldest Kachina traders in the business.  These traders handle some of the best kachina dolls on the market.

This exquisite Morning Singer kachina doll features a wooden feather headdress that was carved and etched with the finest minute details.  The feathers, tree, rattle and base are all one piece.  The wooden shells are the only other pieces on this amazing sculpture!
The mask has the traditional Morning Singer face with its tubular mouth and red ears.  In its hand is a brilliant green evergreen tree, the trademark of the Morning Singer kachina.

This wonderful Third Mesa Hopi kachina doll stands at about 15-1/2" tall, including the wooden base, and is about 3-5/8" wide.    Signed B. Loma. by the Hopi master kachina doll carver Bryon Lomakewata.

The Kachina doll is given in hopes of abundance and health as well as for religious education.  The Hopis were the original carvers, using a single piece of cottonwood root. The Zunis followed, carving in the same way as the Hopis.  The Navajo began carving in their own creative way, adding feathers, fur and leather to their creations.  There are over 350 Kachina dolls, each with its own attributes.

This gorgeous doll represents the Morning Singer Kachina, who sits on rooftops and awakens the villagers with her songs.  The Morning Singer kachina is associated with bean planting time (occurs in February for about two weeks), often comes in pairs and entices the other kachinas to sing and dance and bring abundance during planting time.

This masterpiece of Hopi art is somewhat delicate as well as beautiful.  But no worries!  We have years of experience in shipping fine works of art and assure you that this will be well packaged and arrive to you in excellent condition!
