After a Day's Sport in the Sierras.

Another marvelous illustration from the Deluxe Edition of John Muir's Picturesque California, published in 1888, a photogravure from a drawing by F. O. C. Darley. A lone hunter rests under a tree, rifle across his lap. At his feet are the fruits of his efforts - an adult bear and two cubs. A beautiful print, signed in the plate "F. O. C. Darley fecit 1887" at lower left, in the lower right is the signature "J (?) G (?) F(?)erris Etch 88". The print measures 8 1/4 x 12 1/4" and is tipped-in to a stiff mounting board measuring 15 x 20". The protective tissue guard bearing the title is included

The mounting board is brittle with one almost-broken corner, the tissue guard and board are lightly damp stained along left and edges, they both exhibit some soiling around edges as well. The print itself is virtually defect-free and very good or better, the mounting medium is only fair. (A-)
