Size: 8 x 11 inches. Ever since the Roman Empire, one of the chief uses of lead has been for pipe, which was made in the shop by casting. This founder melts his lead on the furnace, not a terribly hot furnace (fig. 4) and then pours lead sheet on a casting table (fig. 1). Two men pour and a third controls the flow with his fire-rake. When cool, the sheet will simply be rolled up for storage or shipping (fig. 11).
