I came across this fantastic plate at a recent Estate Sale. It was made by the Sterling Bronze Company from New York. The company was mainly known for its high-quality bronze lighting fixtures, chandeliers, clock cases, etc. The back of this plate is signed by Oscar Bach near the top of the rim “Oscar B. Bach” in script and impressed below it in print is “STERLING BRONZE CO NEW YORK and the number 19.

Oscar Bruno Bach (1884-1957) was one of the most well known early 20th Century metal sculptor artists in the American Art Deco period (1920-1940). He is famous also for his work in Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building and other New York buildings. The plate measures 12 inches in diameter. It is made of a silver colored metal (aluminum?) and has iridescence to it. I had a hard time taking pictures because some times it would look blue or green or multi color depending on what it was near. I placed it next to a coffee pot in one of the picture so you can compare the color of the metals. It reminded me of carnival glass not metal. The center of the plate has a relief sculpted swan. The plate or charger has the original patina with some surface scratches, rubs, and marks. I did not want to polish it or risk damaging the surface in any way. I don’t know if the small marks will come out or not. I have taken pictures so you can see the condition and details for yourself. I think it is a beautiful plate. I have found some other plates of his in the price range of $85.00 to $500.00 and some are not in this nice of a condition.
