| Vintage Bufflehead Duck Decoy Hand Carved Fred Hirsch 1982 Only one available in stock ![]() ![]() |
I came across this gorgeous hand carved wooden Bufflehead Duck Decoy at a recent sale. It is signed on the bottom by the artist, Fred Hirsch and dated 9-82 (1982). It is a beautiful piece of artwork, a decoy obviously made for display, not for use in a pond. I tried to do some research on the artist and came up with some information, but not anything real specific about his profile. Based on the following information I think the price I am asking is quite fair. I do have additional pictures I can send if you are interested. I found a reference to a Barnacle Goose Duck Decoy by Fred Hirsch, signed and dated 1980 that sold at Morphy Auctions in Denver, Pennsylvania on June 10, 2005 for $300.00. He is a wonderful Duck Decoy Carver. On the Kovels.com site there are two references to sales of his decoys. 1. Harlequin Drake, Hollow, turned head, signed Fred Hirsch, 1979. Sold in 2007 for $225.00 2. Red Breasted Merganser, swimming, hollow, raised wing, Signed Fred Hirsch (pair) Sold in 2007 for $505.00 This duck, the Bufflehead (also called Buffalo Head or Buffle Head) is the smallest of the diving ducks and is common throughout the United States. This is the male and has the white patch on the black head, a black back and white chest and sides. This duck is in excellent condition and is strikingly beautiful with no damage of any kind. It measures approximately 7 1/2” long and 4 1/2” wide. It stands about 4” tall. This item will be sent Parcel Post with Delivery Confirmation.
