You are presented here with an extremely rare  Greek KOMBOLOI of excemptional quality  made of 23 Bulging Large Barrel  beads + two large silver separator beads + 1 Front bead  of perfect Bright  and deep burgundy colored  FATURAN of the XIXth century.
COLOR, SIZE, SHAPE AND NEXT TO PERFECT CARVING AND UNIFORMITY MAKE OF THIS STRAND AN EXCEPTIONAL COLLECTOR'S ITEM OF UTMOST RARITY.

The Beads of this strand have been in my private collection for more than 25 years. The Komboloi has been designed with sterling silver beads , Tassel and shield.Pictures will describe better than anything else this beautiful item.
I estimate that the beads are made of very old Faturan  as extensive use may be witnessed thus they very probably date back to the late  XIXth century or the beginning of the XXth and are of the earliest types of Faturan . They have been carved in Istanbul and they are of typical Ottoman/Turkish bead of bulging barrels. The beads show clearly that they have been hand made and have a very beautiful shine. It is an extremely interesting item.
Beads are  large : 16 mm dia. and 16 mm height on the average!! . A pleasant and perfect  size for Faturan barrels beads . It is a nice and well balanced  strand weighing a very impressive  impressive 109 grams with a length of 41 cm, masculine and very impressive, mounted on a sturdy  cord.
The color of this strand is of a Burgundy of exceptional glow.  Wear shows on the beads, adding to their attraction

The tassel is Sterling Silver, entirely hand made using the famous ALBANIAN LINK chain- The length of chain used in the tassel needs more than a full day of work of a well trained artisan.
 The shield as well as all metail parts are also Sterling Silver, hand made and finely ornamented.

AMBER-FATURAN is a mixture of natural amber, resins and incense.The technique of sticking together the shavings of amber together with a mixture of secret natural resins and incense to turn it into a solid material is unknown until today, This method was invented by an Arab named Faturan, in the XIXth century and the material carried his name ever since. The original Faturan beads are only red in all its shades.This color was obtained by using natural vegetal dyes, red wine or brandy before the sticking process. The last Faturan beads were made in 1940. This makes real Faturan extremely rare and desirable.
