TURKISH BAGA
The Turkish word Baga means turtle -land as well as sea turtle or tortoise. Originally some bead strands were made with the inner lighter colored part of the tortoise shell, wherefrom the term BAGA. At a later stage with the development of organic chemistry and semi synthetic and synthetic resin, especially phenolic resins, the name BAGA was given to the yellowish/brownish color resins which looked like the real inside part of the tortoise shell. Consequently the name extended to other colors also and is now a name used to define vintage beads made of resin. Many names are also used like Misketa, Miske, Sikma and even some people wrongly use the term Faturan which is much more specific
