Civil War Times Illus. Magazine, May 1972, (Stonewall Jackson) Cover Art: "Stonewall Jackson in the Valley," by Haddon Sundown IN THIS ISSUE: Articles: This issue is entirely Stonewall in the Shenandoah
The Valley Campaign of 1862, by James I. Robertson, Jr. The blurb on this issue is as follows: "Dr. James I. Robertson, Jr., formerly executive director of the United States Civil War Centennial Commission, and ex-editor of the journal "Civil War History," has long been an authority on the war. His many books include the prize-winning "The Stonewall Brigade," an important new bibliography "Civil War Books," and a number of works on which he has served as an editor. He is presently Chairman of the History Department at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg." These magazines are great for Civil War buffs, history buffs, historians and students of all ages. They were published by the Historical Times, Inc. out of Gettysburg, PA. In general, issues feature period photographs, drawings and etchings, accompanied by interesting and informative articles and stories about various aspects of the civil war. There are also accounts and analysis of different battles as experienced by generals and foot soldiers alike. Articles also discuss how the war in general, and the battles and their aftermaths, effected towns, regions and civilians. Please refer to each issue separately to find the specific articles or general topic areas that you are interested in. Each issue features civil war themed artwork on the cover and a period photograph on the back. General information on these magazines: These magazines are generally in good condition. I obtained all of these from a recent civil war related auction. It appears that the person who had them was a historian or major collector of some type. These magazines were obviously part of this person’s research archive. As such, they were kept bound in binder format and there are few tears or ragged edges on the pages, additionally, the covers are in pretty good shape. Most of them have some small spot staining on the covers, and several have up to a half inch pulled from the binding. The bindings themselves are very tight; especially when one considers that some of these issues are 40+ years old. I will try to note any additional damage if I see it. The aforementioned description covers all of the issues I have for sale. Some are in a little better condition and some are in a little worse condition. All are in good condition for their age. (NOTE: This issue has some brown stains and on the covers, as well as a 1/4" split in the binding.) Each magazine is 8.5” X 11.5” Please email me with any questions before you purchase.
