Antique Treenware Glove Powderer (104)
What a treasure this piece of treen is. It is a glove powderer. The long "neck" fit down into each finger of a leather glove to deposit powder on the inside to make it easier to slip on the glove for madam.
This piece of treen was in my collection of treenware that I am now selling. It is time for others to enjoy it as much as I have.
I have seen this particular design of treen in collections of Shaker woodenware. I can't guarantee that it is Shaker-made, but it replicates others that I have seen. It still has remnants of the powder inside. The top actually screws to the bottom. Age is estimated ca 1900.
The piece measures approximately 2-3/4 inches in diameter and approximately 4-6/8 inches tall. I believe that it is made of maple.
It is in very good condition with an excellent patina. A very unique addition to an existing collection, or to start a new one.
