TAXCO MEXICO LOS CASTILLO STERLING SILVER BROOCH (213j)
If you like unique jewelry, then this is the piece for you. If you love Taxco Mexico silver jewelry, then this is the piece for you. If you collect Native American themes, then this is the piece for you. Featured is a unique brooch from the famed taller of Los Castillo in Taxco, Mexico. The Los Castillo taller was the leader in developing new and unique methods of creating jewelry.
This sterling sliver brooch is one of their famous feather pieces, or a "Feather Head" as it is sometimes called.
The face and head dress, have been carefully cut out of the silver shell. The different colors showing through are from many colored feathers cut to size and glued in place along the edges of the cut out area. The back is then filled with a clear resin.
It is very detailed work, done by incredibly talented artisans and the colors gives this Indian head his unforgettable countenance.
Imbedded in the resin on the reverse side are plaques reading “Sterling” and “Los Castillo – Mexico”.
The safety clasp is in good working order, and the brooch itself is in very good condition.
The brooch is 1 1/2" high and 2" wide. I believe that it dates to the 1940’s.
If you collect jewelry from the Taxco artisans, then this is a must have for you. It is a rare piece from the era of these talented artisans. This is really the only one of its kind that I have ever come across in all of my years of dealing in Taxco jewelry.
