What a remarkably decorative piece this is! Cupid is on an oval base bordered with gold, highlighted with a classical pattern. (His face is just beautiful! Take a look at the photo below.) The large plant, with lots of blossoms in various stages of opening, appears to be situated on a bed of gold branches. The majority of the piece is white glazed porcelain. The blossoms are pale yellow tinged with rose. The stamens are a deeper yellow with brownish-orange tips. The rest of the ornamentation is gold. There is a maker's mark on the base, as shown in the photo below.
The base is 8" x 4 1/4". The height is 8". It is in excellent vintage condition. The largest blossom appears to have some separation on the top, but this is seems to be in the production of the piece where there might not have been enough slip applied. Looking at it from the bottom of that same blossom, it appears to be affixed tightly from firing. The back of the cherub's head and the plant directly above the cherub's left hand have small rough to the touch areas where glaze was missed in the application. There may also be a small flake on this one plant area. There are three tiny dots of gold paint in the base glaze. Overall, this objet d'art makes a superb presentation for display. Look how fabulous it looks in a bookcase in my kitchen/keeping room.
