This is one of the variety of Brazilian lucite animals from internationally famous Abraham Palatnik that we will have in our shop. The animals differ in type, size, shape, and complexity of the artistic design and detailing. But, they are all Fantastic with a capital F! The animals started out as clear shapes but when the artist was finished, each one had different complex and intricate webs of lines that defined its form and details. Some are single color, others two or three, still others have a variety of colors. Every single one is wonderful!

Abraham Palatnik is an internationally known and honored artist, residing in Brazil. His work is highly collected and valued, even more since his receiving the 2005 Leonardo Life-time Achievement Award. He was a pioneer in and continues to specialize in kinetic art--art that appears to move, and definitely moves the observer. This is one of his unique penguins, an example of the large variety of animals he designed during the 1950s and 60s. You do not see this one very often, making it even more of a prize.

This breaching whale, meaning he is literally leaping out of the water, is a bit over 5" tall. It has a more complex decoration scheme since its curved shape allows for creating curved shapes to define the different parts of the whale's body. It's one of the few pieces that has solid sections of color. The white shapes are created by outlining them in dotted dots and dashes. It is very remindful of the pointillism used by the Impressionist artists. The creativity shown here is outstanding. The whale is in excellent condition even having its original "Made in Brazil" label. If you look carefully, you can see the vertical PAL signature near the bottom of the whale where the figurine flares out. It is interwoven with the design--simply amazing! If you're a Palatnik fan, don't miss out on this whale, one of the rarest of the rare. The pictures really don't do justice to the whale's unique qualities and the complexity of design.
