Because of the rarity of the marking, it is a must have for any collection--even if it means duplication of the model number. This little fellow is one of an exquisite series of penguins produced by Bing and Grondahl, mostly in the first half of the 20th century. This little fellow is model #1821; the number is hand-painted on the underside of the piece. All of the B&G penguins were hand-painted in muted light and dark gray, taupe, beige and sometimes pink, colors. No two are exactly alike. This penguin is in mint condition with its full stamp on the underside of the base. The markings include the old B&G 3-towered logo with B&G inside a circle. A blue B&G stamp is also faintly visible; however, the word "Denmark" is nowhere to be seen. This is what sets it apart as it indicates the very old age of this piece because it was produced before the requirement for country of origin became law. This also is an indication of its rarity as you rarely see one without the country's name on it. It is also marked with the artist who did the handpainting, in this case "HS" The penguin stands a regal + 3 1/2" tall and is in mint condition. The workmanship and attention to detail are amazing--note that there are even the pupils in its eyes! The pictures in no way do this penguin justice.
