This is one big, beautiful bird, in mint condition! (It was also exceedingly difficult to photograph!) It is a 1984 Goebel penguin masterpiece, is 12" tall and in mint condition. The penguin is hand-painted in exquisite variegated, almost pastel colors of a teal blue, lavender, browns, black, and white. The greatest color concentration is on the head, wings, and back while the remainder of the figure fades to the traditional white on the front of the bird. Its beak rests on its chest, which is the traditional feeding and sleeping stance for penguins. The eyes are outlined in white so they really stand out. The penguin's pose is entirely charming and endearing. The penguin is incised with a number, which we believe is 38 961 31. It still has the original foil label which dates the figure at 1984. It is truly a masterpiece, one that we have seen only in an all white, variegated gray, and variegated brown. We have never seen it in these magnificent colors! .
