WOW! SUCH a wonderful old piece. This would easily date to the 1800's/early 1900's. One of the earliest types of shoe stretchers cobblers used to use to "stretch" shoes! The iron handle you see feeds into the wooden shoe mold form. When you turn the iron handle it makes the arrowhead looking metal head move forward through the mold & this "spreads" the two sides of the mold slowly apart thereby "stretching" the shoe. The patina on the old wood is just GORGEOUS! Wonderful early cobbler tool would look wonderful as a wall hang OR simply a stand alone display (conversation) piece! The wooden shoe mold measures 10" long. With the iron handle approx. 17 3/4" long.
