We bought this doorstop recently from the estate of a collector. We usually don't carry doorstops because of all the massive reproductions on the market right now But this one has ALL the indications of a true original. Size, feel, color & weight are all correct. I've not cleaned this one up at ALL. The colors are still beautiful. These old Flower Basket true ORIGINAL OLD Doorstops are VERY collectible.
Some simple tips I researched for spotting the real thing in Antique Cast Iron Doorstops are smooth cast iron, not bumpy or rough. Old Cast Iron typically does not have red rust that rubs off when touched. Red dusty rust is an indicator of new metal. Most unpainted old cast iron is smooth, dark and rust-free unless it has been stored in very moist conditions like a basement. (This one is smooth, dark cast iron on the back & in the few places that are missing paint & NOTHING rubs off on your hands) Originals are heavy, weighing in at 5-8 pounds each (This one weighs SEVEN pounds) You'll spot a modern reproduction by its rough metal and rough edges & paint that just looks "too" perfect (i.e. NEW). If it looks new, it probably is new. This one has none of those "issues". These old cast iron doorstops were made to be used & therefore paint chips are acceptable on them so long as much of the original paint survives. The value goes down drastically for those that have been repainted. (This one has its ORIGINAL paint) It's the REAL deal! It measures 9 3/4" Tall & 7 3/4" wide. Wear as indicative of age. I've taken several HIGH resolution pictures for your inspection!
