A wonderful unique brooch of Washington DC.
I have never seen one like this and could not find one on the web.
It is approx 2 1/2" wide and in very good condition. The clasp is a barrel type used during the Victorian era.
The back is marked twice. Once on the part that has the porcelain picture and once on the enamel outer piece.
The marks are hard to read.
They both read STERLING than there are 3 small hallmarks on each. The first looks like a crown, the second one looks like ee but could be something else, and the third I cannot make out at all.
The picture in the middle looks to be hand painted on porcelain and reads U.S. CAPITAL WASHINGTON D.C. There is an eagle in sterling on top of the picture.
The outer section is white pearlized enamel in the guilloche style seen on many of the Scandinavian pins.
A great addition for your collection!
