My Great-Grandparents & Grandparents were canasta addicts and very wealthy. It was a constant struggle for family and firends to find unique gifts for them since they traveled extensively and lived in New York City. This is was one of their favorite finds when traveling on their "around the world" honeymoon.
They left it to my Grandfather, who left it to my Father, who left it to me. It's been in the family forever or at least as long as I can remember and I am 56.
I can remember sitting on a stool around their custom made round card table and fetching drinks & snacks at marathon card games and being allowed to "retired" the decks to this "magical" storage box.
I have not been able to find another one like it on the internet to verify dates or prices. That leads me to believe it is extremely rare and a collector's item. If you know anything about it or have seen another one, please email. I have combed it with a fine tooth comb and there are no IDs, logos, backmarks or other markings.
