ITEM: Civil War Letter SIZE: 4 3/4 By 8 Inches COMMENTS: A Civil War letter from Charles Holtz to his daughter. " Camp Smith Oct 20th 62 My dearest little Irene! It is a long time since I have wrote to you last but you must not think that I forgot you in that time, for I am thinking of you most all the time and whenever I get the opportunity, I shall send you something nice. We are now in a beautiful city, in fredericksburg, Md., but I don't like it as well as New Haven, where I can see and talk to you whenever I pleased; but my Dear child, think allways that your father's here on his country's cause, and that you will be once proud of him as the children America's now are of their forefathers for the independence of their country. Be allways diligent and obedient, and every one around you will like you, and it will make a double pleasure to your father, when he hears that your are a good girl. If it is possible for me, I shall come home in course of this winter on a furlough, when I wish you a good and faithfull little girl. Your loving father Chas. Holtz. write soon."
