Because I cannot test for trace elements to determine the precise garnet type this is, I've listed it as a pyrope - a fairly common variety of red garnet. As you can see, it is a rich wine color.

There are dozens of types (and colors) of garnets, including Natural Color Change Garnets.

Garnets are among the few that are not treated to enhance their beauty.

This particular loose gemstone is calibrated to fit any standard 8x6mm settings, and weighs just shy of 2 full carats, at 1.88ct.

Garnets are used as the birthstone for January - and this burgandy colored specimen is perfect for a birthstone ring, or as an addtion to any gemstone collection.
