A nineteenth century silk lined jewelry case that might have once held a watch. The original paper label is on the bottom. There is a fold in the label so that not all of it can be read. What can be seen is the name "J. Duerr Watchmaker." Peeking gently under the fold, I see "Pottsville" which is a town in Pennsylvania. The exterior is black leather. The interior is lined in purple silk. The white silk ribbons at the ends of the interior which held the top from being opened to a wide angle are present but broken. The two "holder" parts inside are covered in purple velvet. There are some scuffs and wear to the leather of the top and sides. This would be an interesting labelled watch or jewelry case to add to a collection or to use for a nineteenth century watch. It measures 7 1/2" long at its longest point by 2 1/2" at its widest point by 1 3/8" deep when closed. The hooks to close the case are both present.
