A 19th century Victorian Trade Card advertising the play "Across the Continent" which was put on by the Byron Combination which included the actor Oliver Doud Byron (1842-1920) who is said to have performed the part of Joe Ferris in this play thousands of times over thirty years. In his New York Times obituary of October 23, 1920 it states that he had starred for 22 seasons in Across the Continent.
Printed on the card back is, "Across the Continent is the Quintessence of Animation and the Funniest Play in the World." There is a one inch long tear in the paper a little bit above the center of the card that is visible on close inspection and if you bend the card. There are some wrinkles that are visible mainly on the card back. The paper of this card is thinner than the paper from which most ad cards are made. The card measures 4 7/8" by 2 7/8". Printed on the lower center front is "Byron Combination."
