Late nineteenth century cabinet photographs of President Grover Cleveland and his wife Frances whom he married in the White House in 1886. She was twenty-one at the time.
The cabinet photos measure 6 1/2" by 4 1/4". The condition of the photos can be seen in the accompanying image. The Grover Cleveland cabinet has a chip off of one corner, a shallow chip off the top edge, wear to the lower right front corner, a little fading to the image. and some light soiling. The back of the Grover Cleveland photo has information about the Vote of the Electoral College for the Presidential Election of 1884 in the top third of the back and in the lower two-thirds text that advertizes White Vaseline with a manufacturer's name of Chesebrough Manuf'g Co., 24 State Street, New York. Below the image of the President is printed: "Grover Cleveland, Democratic Candidate for President 1884."
The Frances Cleveland cabinet has some foxing and soiling on both the front and back of the cabinet. The back is blank. Below the image of Frances Cleveland is printed "Frances Cleveland" (in script which is probably meant to simulate her signature) and "Published by J. H. SoulĂŠ, Washington, D.C., Copyrighted by A. G. Gedney, 1886."
