A circa 1890's cabinet card photo of an impressive large cemetery monument to Harry W. Arnold. The cabinet card measures 4 1/4" by 6 1/2". Below the image is printed: "Geo. Statler, Market St., Johnstown, PA."
The photo's condition is shown in the accompanying picture. The image is a bit light. There is light brown toning to the mat which does not affect the image. At the middle of the top edge of the image there are three small tears, two of which are about 1/8' long and one which is 1/4" long, and some tiny chipping to the photo edge in the same area. The incised printing on the monument can be read with difficulty as we are trying to read light printing on a light background. As best as we can make it out, it appears to read: "Harry W. Arnold. Born Dec. 9, 1855. Died Jan. 2, 1889. Mustered into Camp #14. S. V. V. S. A. Oct. 6, 1883. Captain Oct. 6, 1883. Col. PA Division Mar. 14, 1884. Commander in Chief Aug. 29, 1884. Erected in grateful memory of the Commander". The monument maker's name, C. Keim, is marked on the monument.
