Cabinet photo from the 1890's of a young "Postal" employee & his wife. The man is wearing a sweater which has the word "Postal" on it. Also, he is wearing a hat which has a large metal crest on the top. We are not able to read the wording on the crest. The mat has the photographer's identification finely pressed in which reads "Preble 68 Main Street, Waterville, Me."
At the right border of the mat there is a 1/4" & a 1/8" tear. On the back there is a 3/8" by 1/8" scuff by the 1/8*" tear near the center right of mat & a crease along the edge of the mat. This does not show on the front of the mat. At the bottom right corner by the 1/4" tear there is a crease bend of the mat. These flaws do not affect the photo but just the mat.
Photo has some soiling & a minor thin scratch on right top background. A very scarce subject for a cabinet photo. The photo with mount measures 6 1/2" tall by 4 5/16" wide. The precise condition is visible in the pics.
