Vintage Carnelian Oriental Lucky Dragon Necklace

Lucky Dragon Necklace is 22 1/2 inches long, 8 cloisonne beads that vary between 8.10 mm and 8.35 mm. The 38 carnelian beads vary from 9.56 mm and 10.41 mm. The dragon is about 2 1/8 inches long, 1 inch wide, and 1/3 inch deep. The loop is about 1 inch long, 3/4 inch wide and 1/12 inch deep.

All measurements were taken with an electronic caliper. The variations in measurements are due to the components being handmade rather than machine made.

The findings are bright, but I will assume goldtone. There are knots between each bead which appear to be hand knotted.

Purchased by my mother, I believe in the 1970's, but do not know if it was purchased as new or antique.

There are no makrings that I can find. This is most likely Chinese.

This could be red jade, but is more likely carnelian. It tested in the tourmaline and chrysoprase ranges on the thermal gem tester. Higer than glass and lower than nephrite jade, that I have on hand.

The carnelian is gem quality and quite translucent. Current prices would price just the carnelian beads alone over $285.

Unique closure, the dragon head fits through the ring.

Unfortunately, the dragon's head has been broken at one time and repaired. Everything else is in perfect condition and this does not deminish the beauty or overall value of this piece.
