Marvel Comics

Very Fine to Near Mint Condition, based on Overstreet Price Guide grading.

Originally published as Timely Comics, Marvel Comics of the Golden Age introduced such mainstays to the their superhero universe as Captain America, The Sub-Mariner, The Original Human Torch, sidekicks Bucky Barnes (who has taken over for the original, still-dead, Captain America.) and Toro. That period of history also introduced such characters as The Vision, The Angel (both of whom would be remade into new characters in the 60's Marvel universe in Mighty Avengers and Uncanny X-men, respectively. And let's not forget Yellow Claw and Venus, both pivotal to Marvel's current Agents of Atlas title, and the Destroyer (who would later appear in Citizen V & The V Battalion and the New Invaders and Age of Sentry), the original Black Knight, and Marvel Boy.

This collection has 17 stories spanning the entire golden age, from the pre-World War II first appearance of Sub-Mariner, to the temporary revivals of Captain America, The Human Torch, and The Sub-Mariner in the 50's. There are also text pieces by Roy Thomas, one of the biggest fan/professionals with an enthusiam for the Golden Age of Comics. Roy Thomas created the Invaders for Marvel and the All-Star Squadron for DC Comics, the two biggest retro WWII superhero titles, ever. Roy also was a junior editor writer under Stan Lee during Marvel's silver age renesiance. If you're going to have someone put together a book like this, it's Mr. Thomas. Finally, if you're still not convinced, how's this for a list of talent, Joe Simon and Jack Kirby doing Captain America, Bill Evertt on Sub-Mariner, Carl Burgos on the Human Torch, Russ Heath, Joe Maneely, Mike (Silver Age Justice League) Sekowsky, and John Romita Sr. (See my sale of Spider-Man Magazine 1 for more on JRsr.).
