A Practical Guide to Japanese-English Onomatopoeia and Mimesis
by Hideichi Ono

For serious Japanese language students, this book is a hard-to-find Japanese reference book on the onomatopoeia and mimesis of the Japanese language.
Onomatopoeia: One or more words that imitate or suggest the source of the sound they are describing. Common occurrences include animal noises, such as "oink" or "meow" or "roar".
Mimesis: The imitation or reproduction of the supposed words of another, as in order to represent his or her character.

The interesting thing about the Japanese language is it has words to describe actual sounds (Phonomime -- 擬声語 giseigo), words for non-auditory senses (Phenomime -- 擬態語 gitaigo) and words that represent psychological states or bodily feelings (Psychomime -- 擬態語 gitaigo).
No other Japanese language book or dictionary is as thorough as this book is in describing the various sounds and non-sounds.

This rare book is selling for $115 on Amazon.
