Summary: This is the first full-length biography of this great Cherokee leader and Confederate general, a book epic in theme, readable in content, and beautiful in format. For more than three decades Stand Watie was a controversial figure in Cherokee history. During the Civil War he became the only Indian general on either side of the conflict. He and his family faced many hardships. Time and again he demonstrated his genius, never wavering from what he saw as his duty until his death in 1871. This book is vital to the understanding of Oklahomaa € ™s colorful heritage.

Condition: Hard cover; covers show faint wear; name on inside of front fly; text is sound and clean; overall very good; Dust wrapper is worn, rubbed, some soiling and few small tears.
