Charming hand painted porcelain portrait brooch depicting a lovely woman in profile with elaborate hairstyle and patrician features. Frame is gold filled with a twisted design, and the safety clasp indicates this brooch may have been made as late as the early 1900's, although I believe no later than 1910. Measures 2 1/8" across. Most likely French in origin. The background is gold over a pretty turquoise color, and the flesh tones and colors of this lovely woman are still clear. There are some areas of wear on the gold paint and a small ding in the porcelain near the upper left hand side of the turquoise against the frame, in keeping with age of piece. Back of brooch has minor wear, and the numbers 123 are faintly visible. Despite the signs of wear, this is a very attractive piece, and one that would make a great addition to any antique jewelry collection.
