ITEM DESCRIPTION: Three issues in one lot, June 1881, July 1881, August 1881, containing "A Rainy Day With Uncle Remus" by Joel Chandler Harris. The June and July issues also include "A Fearful Responsibility" by William Dean Howells. GRADING - CONDITION: Each issue complete, scans are included below of each front and back cover (front cover June issue at left up here) as well as all three spines. The June issue is the worst of the three with a piece chipped out of both the top and bottom of the spine and slightly heavier edge wear on the covers than the other two. July is the best with a little wear on the edges, full spine, but a 1-3/4" tear at the bottom of the spine where it meets the front cover. Small tear into the bottom of the spine on the August issue, light edge wear to covers. Overall I'd call the three issues VG-EX or 4.5/10, just slightly below average, but still pretty strong for the nineteenth century.
