THIS IS A VINTAGE RUSSIAN AZERI CAUCASIAN RUG, IT WAS MADE APPROXIMATELY 100 YEARS AGO (CIRCA 1890) IN THE TOWN OF DERBENT
This is an exceptional original KAZAK with some interesting facets to it, the vine leaf 'T' border is seen in remarkably few KAZAKs with an intertwining Caucasian stripe (I have only seen one other in Fabio Formenton's treatise 1972 on Oriental Rugs) It is well documented that true 'old' Kazak's are always wool on wool ie. the warp threads in construction as this is, and they generally have an open field such as this. An incredible example of Kazak this rug is like paper the construction is so fine, just magnificent, the prospective owner will have a museum quality treasure.
Exact dimensions are 8' 4" X 4' 3".
