Incredible RARE vintage DAZKIRI Village rug Circa 1930's or less .
Dazkiri rugs have not been made for decades now, which makes this Vintage Dazkiri/Dazgiri even more valuable, even in Turkiye it nearly impossible to find a Dazkiri which is not fragmented or heavily used; this work of art is virtually unused clearly having been kept by the original family as a showpiece for exceptional occasions only. So different, huge white field containing a fascinating rod medallion in walnut brown, other muted browns and creams and framed with a peach colored floral border, just so so different.
Dazkiri is located just west of Isparta in Southwestern Anatolia, many references tell of this region using 'unusual yellows, peaches, browns and oranges not seen commonly elsewhere. This hand-knotted and vegetable extract dyed rug has approximately 256 KPSI incredibly and exceptionally fine Turkish double knots, characteristically for a Dazkiri, and its incredibly dense weaving occasions its weight. The pile is very low cut, also a Hallmark and thus shows off the beautiful intricacies of this rug, and by turning the rug over to inspect the back you can see what wonderful workmanship created this work of art. Barry O'Connell shows the attributes of a Dazkiri in an 18'th century example in his JBOC'S notes on Oriental Rugs, in which the lock border work is almost an exact replica of that in this piece.
