Extraordinary Dosemealti Yoruk Vintage rug Circa. 1950's.
Beautiful dark bright blues, reds, white and browns a veritable cornucopia of colors and accents very traditiona colored Dosemealti and characteristically still with indubitable Dosemealti motifs and wonderful border motif work. This rug has a great deal of Doesemealti, but also is somewhat more Yoruk and has some fascinating motifwork. The reverse scorpion motifs on this rug are extraordinary, I have never seen work like this before, I suppose it intimates a 'hidden' scorpion, its there none the less and to an unturored eye looks like there is a blemish on the rug until the significance is pointed out on the reverse of the rug. The 2 most common motifs are the camel and scorpion on these 'nomadic' rugs, and this one is no exception, it also has a tribal identifying mark, to distinguish it and promote tribal unity, this ones ID looks like a sort of 5 pointed leaf interspersed between the scorpion motifs in the main white border. The center of this rug comprises 1 central stepped diamond medallion containing a variety of different motifs. Acknowledged as one of the premier weaving area in Central Anatolia. Dosemealti or Antalya rugs are most often associated with one of Turkiye's premier ports, although for centuries serving as a clearing house for rugs, not many dosemealtis have made their way to the west. This is a very big and very densely woven rug and is extremely heavy approximating 45 pounds in weight. Some of the photography shows dappling sunlight on the rug.
Dimensions are 10' X 6' 6".
This rug has just been imported from Anatolia and has never been listed or advertised before today.
