Outstanding Antique Chinese Lidded Jar w/ Butterflies. This extra large jar is 15-1/2" tall and 35-1/2" circumference. It is stunning with a celedon (pale green) background and vibrantly colored butterflies, fruit and flowers. It is decorated with butterflies, pomegranates, peaches, lotus, chrysanthemums, peonies, etc. The butterfly is a symbol of joy, the pomegranate is a symbol of prosperity, the peach symbolizes longevity, the lotus is the symbol for purity, chrysanthemums represents the sun and perfection and the peony is the symbol for China and good fortune. The bottom has makers marks under the glaze. I believe it dates to the last quarter of the 1800's. It is a gorgeous antique and it is in excellent condition with crazing to the celedon glaze but without any chips or cracks.
