Instructions to Setup a Recurring Google Item Grab

Follow these instructions, and Google will grab the items from your booth as often as once per day and add them to Google Product Search. Google Product Search will expose your items to the most frequently used search engine on the web... at no charge. These instructions typically take 5-10 minutes to complete, plus an extra five minutes if you haven't already setup a Google account.

Useful data specific to your Bonanzle account

Please login to see data specific to your Bonanzle account.

Full instructions

  1. Log into Google Base. If you don't already have a Google Account, create one.
  2. From the main Google Base page (http://www.google.com/base), click on "Data Feeds" from the options on the right side of the page. See a picture.
  3. In the upper left corner of the page, click the button that says "New Data Feed". See a picture
  4. You'll be taken to a page asking you about your display name, item feed description, and website URL. Fill in the display name with the name you'd like buyers to see alongside your items (we recommend "Bonanzle"). For the field labeled "web site address," enter your booth address, which is shown above in "Field One." Then click "Next." See a picture
  5. You'll be taken to a new page asking about your feed details. For the item type, pick "Products," and for the type of data feed, leave "googlebase" selected (see a picture). For the data feed filename, paste in the filename of your Google feed, which is given above in "Field Two." See a picture.
  6. Click the "Register Data Feed" button at the bottom of the page, and you're just about done. The only remaining item is to schedule how often you want your feed updated. On the page that lists your data feeds, click the "Create" link just to the right of the word "Schedule." See a picture.
  7. A box will pop up asking how often you want your items updated. Choose whatever frequency you want (the more often Google grabs your items, the more often they get updated, but it may take your items off Google briefly while the items are being updated... we recommend choosing either daily or weekly). Finally, erase the default value that Google will have entered into the field labeled "Url of file" and paste in "Field Three," above. See a picture.

And you're done! Nice going! Buyers, here you come!

Note that it may take a day or two until your items show up in the Google Products search, Be patient, Google will get to you eventually.

Make sure that you are using a unique Google Base account for your Bonanzle feed. If you attempt to use a Google Base account which was initially opened with another venue (inactive or not) you will get an error. Your Google Base account must be new and unique to Bonanzle.

Best thing to do is have both the bonanzle help page and google base windows opened in tabs so you can go back and forth, step by step.

If you have more than one booth, or an Etsy or eBay store and you want to do feeds for all, you DO NOT need to get separate accounts, Google can create a multi-client account for you. You just need to request it, and they set it up in about a day. Check it out and request one here: http://base.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=29893&topic=14335

I just set mine up and its working great for my 2 Bonanzle booths as well as my Etsy shop.

The exception to this rule would be if you are listing duplicates at each site. In that case a multi-user account would not work as Google would reject the duplicate listing feeds.

Once you set up a new Google Base feed it may take up to 48 hours for Google to activate the feed. You may get an error or two until it activates. If you are still getting errors after 48 hours then you need to recheck your settings.

Select UTF-8 for Encoding and select Yes for “Use quoted fields” and make sure
Url of file (eg. http://www.example.com/upload.txt looks like it does below
http://www.bonanzle.com/booth_feeds/YourBooth.xml

We had problems at first but making the following previous selections made it work.

Keeping both the pages open makes it easy to copy and paste. The pictures also help with the navigation.

Definitely open tab pages to help you copy & paste and use googles’ search to help you out as well, because I keyed in “scheduled feeds google base” and got help immediately when I clicked on the link!!

Do not omit the “Website URL (Optional)” field, Even though the field is labeled “Optional” the feed will not fetch if the Website URL is not provided in the “Settings > General” tab.

Q. I added new products, but how do I add them to my Google Base?
A. If you have a reoccurring feed set up then each time you update your Bonanzle booth will also update the feed we send Google Base.

Q. On my item stats, it says that items were last sent to Google base on July 3rd. Does anyone know if items are supposed to be sent daily?
A. Bonanzle makes your feed available daily. You would need to check your “Schedule” at Google base to see how often your feed is scheduled to pull.

Q. When I sign in to my google account, it takes me to my google account, not Google Base. How do I get to Google Base?
A. When you are logged into Gmail, just type in http://www.google.com/base into your browser and it will take you to your Google Base account.
