Using Bonanzle Widgets

My English teacher would grade me down if I didn't enter some text (however meaningless) after the main title and before the first subtitle. Aren't you glad she did?

Widg-WHA?

A Bonanzle Widget is super easy way to share items from your booth (or from other peoples' booths) on a blog, web page, or even on some social networking sites.

The basic idea is you create your widget (by telling us which items you want to have featured), then we give you a couple lines of HTML to paste into your destination that will show the widget you created on Bonanzle. For example: observe the right side. That's a widget.

How Do I Make Mine?

You can do it the fast way or the slow way.

The Fast Way

  1. Login to Bonanzle
  2. Visit the booth whose items you want to feature in your widget.
  3. Pick a booth sort order (e.g., most expensive to least expensive) that shows as many of the items you want in your widget as possible.
  4. In the booth toolbox (right hand side of your screen, below booth categories), click "Create Widget". This will grab the first 36 items on your screen (that's why it was important for you to pick a good item sort order in the step above).
  5. Choose your widget options: how big you want the pictures to be, how many items per row, and the title of the widget. All pretty self-explanatory. You can also rearrange the order of the pictures by dragging them, or if you drag them to the trash bin, the item will be removed from your widget.
  6. Click "Save all changes" when you're done playing.
  7. If the widget looks good to you, you can just copy the HTML you see at the bottom of the page (in the box where it says "Paste the following into an HTML enabled form...") into your source (please don't type it by hand! Use copy/pasting and save yourself the trouble).
  8. If you have extra spots available in your widget (i.e., because you removed some of the default options), you can add more items to your widget individually. Read the instructions below on "The Slow Way" to learn how.

The Slow Way

  1. If you haven't already, log into Bonanzle and create a widget. You can do this by visiting "My Bonanzle" -> "Create a Widget" (under "Selling Activity"). Click "Create a new widget" and enter a title for your widget.
  2. Surf to the items you want to add to your widget and expand the "Actions" link (below the item's description), then choose from your the widget you want to add said item to.
  3. When you are done adding items to your widget, return to the "My Bonanzle" -> "Create a Widget" page, click on the widget you wish to publish, and you will be given the HTML to paste into your destination.

Troubleshooting Widgets

When I paste the widget code into my destination, it doesn't show up at all. What gives?
Your destination must support pasting HTML and Javascript for your Bonanzle widget to work. While virtually all blogs (Wordpress, Blogger, etc.) support this, and every web page should, some social networking sites or esoteric blogs may disable Javascript from working. Contact your system administrator or find their help section to research whether HTML and Javascript can be pasted into the destination.

When I paste the widget code into my destination, the bottom of the widget is cut off. How do I fix it?
That's an easy one! The code that you pasted into your destination is actually telling the destination how big to make your widget. If you look at the HTML, you should see a series of three numbers: the third of those numbers is the height of your widget (in pixels). We make our best guess about a good height for your widget, but if the bottom is getting cut off, you can change the third number to be larger and your widget will become taller, allowing you to see the full widget.

Items in my widget are no longer on Bonanzle but they're still showing up in the widget. How do I remove them?
If you return to edit your widget ("My Bonanzle" -> "Create a widget" -> "Edit"), and then you click "Save all options" again, we will refresh your widget. Normally, Bonanzle should notice when the items in your widget have gotten sold or deleted and update the widget automatically, but if not, re-saving the widget should fix the problem.
