THE CORNER STONE COWBOY.
We are an independently owned church supply store located in the Heart of the Bluegrass.
Our business has roots going back nearly fifty years.
The original store was begun by a minister in his garage. He later relocated his store to a building on North Broadway in Lexington. It was next to the historic Lexington Opera House.
In 1976, the Opera House wanted to acquire his location as additional space for their restored building. That is when my aunt and uncle stepped in. My uncle was a full-time employee of a local utility, but he had wanted such a business for a long time. He and my aunt, plus his sister and brother-in-law, purchased the store and moved three floors of inventory to it's Woodhill location in May of 1976.
After they took over sole ownership, I joined my aunt and uncle in the business in June of 1979 where I have worked ever since. I purchased the business from them when they retired in December of 1998. In July of 2007, we moved our business to the Richmond Woods Centre at the corner of Codell Dr & Todds Rd.
There have been many changes in the retail market over the years.
Many of these changes have been detrimental to small retail establishments like our own.
When people ask how we are doing these days, I tell them that "We are a small, independently owned church supply store in a Wal-Mart economy and an Internet World."
This seems to answer their questions.
Maybe some day He will show us differently, but we continue on, believing that this is part of the Lord's calling for our life.
The Next Chapter:
Our lease at the Codell Drive address ends August 31, 2009. Please keep us in your prayers as we consider converting our retail storefront to an internet warehouse operation. Check back here for an update on our final decision.
