La Casa Mexicana offers high-quality Mexican handicrafts. We are a small, family-ran business. Specifically, La Casa Mexicana is ran by Katherine Milstead (mother) and Jessica Ojeda (daughter)! We have been selling and still do on our website, www.LaCasaMexicana.com, and we have recently joined Bonanzle. Bonanzle was extremely attractive for us since it's super easy and no fees until the item sells. Plus, the community here is wonderful. Please check out our other booth where we sell odd and ends http://www.bonanzle.com/booths/TheClosetMexico has a long history of beautiful art where art skills and craftsmanship are passed down generation to generation. Therefore, certain types of art will be unique only to that area of Mexico where the artisans reside, such as Mayan Hammocks are almost exclusively made in the Yucatan and Talavera Pottery is unique to Puebla, Mexico. The artisans make their livelihoods with the trades passed down from their parents and take much pride in their work.
WHERE & BY WHO ARE OUR PRODUCTS MADE?
**SERVIN STONEWARE - Stoneware that is entirely handmade by artisans from the community of Villa Progreso, Queretaro, Mexico.
**CORN HUSK ANGELS - The angels are made in Zapopan, Mexico, a small city bordering Guadalajara. The angels are made by a mother and son team with seven employees. They have been producing these angels for fifteen years.
**TALAVERA - All of our Talavera is handmade in Puebla, Mexico in the studio of Tomas Huerta, Tobias Huerta, and Maximo Huerta. Their shops are located just down the street from each other, and you guessed it, they are in fact related.
**GORKY POTTERY - Gorky Gonzalez has branded his own line of pottery in Mexico and if anyone has the right to do that, it is this man! He is credited for reviving the almost dead tradition of a now-thriving market of majolica in Mexico. Gorky Gonzalez owns his own ceramic workshop located in Guanajuato, Mexico. He works there with his son, also named Gorky Gonzalez.
**ROMERO GURMAN DICHROIC JEWELRY - Marco Romero and Debora Gurman are a husband and wife team. They employ a handful of artisans in their small shop in Mexico City.
**PALM BASKETS - Our colorful baskets are made by two different groups of Indian families, the Otomi and the Nahuatl. The Nathuatl Indians are descendants of the Aztecs. Both of these Indian groups live in the state of Mexico. The baskets are made near Toluca which is an industrial city east of Mexico City.
